    Any changes necessary? -- 5

    Hi,

    [ 1 ]
"Each year, almost twenty million Japanese are going abroad. How do you feel about this?"
"It's not a bad thing. You tend to have only Japanese values if you stay in Japan all the time, but going to other countries, even just for a while, will help you develop different viewpoints and broaden your horizons. The point is that you should go by yourself and try to talk to the local people as much as possible. Traveling in groups is hardly beneficial."

    [ 2 ]
"Nearly twenty million Japanese travel overseas every year. What do you think about this?"
"It's a good thing. If you never go outside Japan, you'll have only Japanese values, but by going abroad, even for a few days, you'll be able to see things differently and widen your perspectives. What counts is that you go alone and take every opportunity to communicate with the locals. You should know that you'll learn very little from group tours."

Are there any errors or anything awkward?

Every year, almost twenty milliion Japanese travel abroad. What do you think about this?"It's not a bad thing. You tend to have only Japanese values if you stay in Japan all the time,(.) but (But) going to other countries, even just for a while, will help you develop different viewpoints(outlook) and broaden your horizons.

It is not a bad thing.
The point is that you should go by yourself and try to talk to(communicate/mingle/interact with) the local people as much as possible. Traveling in groups is hardly beneficial."

If you do not travel out of Japan, you will tend to have only Japanese values. By travelling abroad, even for a short period, you would be able to see things differently and widen your perspective.

What counts is that you(You should try to) go alone and take every(the) opportunity to communicate with the locals. You should know that you'll learn very little from group tours (You will find that you tend to learn very little from group tours.)"

    tedtmc,
    Thanks for the response.

Does a sentence sound unnatural if it starts with "What counts is..."?

I think that they are both good, no, I don't think that the sentence starting with "What counts is ..." sounds unnatural.

    bhaisahab,
    Thank you for the reply.

Each year, almost twenty million Japanese are going abroad.

Do you think that it's better to use "go" rather than "are going"?

The sentence is grammatically not correct since it should be in the present tense when you say 'each year'(every year is better).

    1. What counts is that you go alone and take every opportunity to communicate with the locals.(What is important is that...)

    2. You should try to go alone and take every opportunity to communicate with the locals.

Sentence 1 is correct but don't you think sentence 2 sounds better?

"Go" is probably better, on reflection.

    I'd go with "tours".
