    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough verify the remaking of the following six sentenes, using different collocations with the verb “hand” instead of the italicized words and phrases?

1.2. The new shops are at hand.

2.1. The two contenders made progress of the same rate.
2.2. The two contenders went hand in hand.

3.1. These youngsters must be disciplined.
3.2. These youngsters must be taken in hand.

4.1. The two girls are very intimate.
4.2. The two girls are hand and glove.

5.1. The young champions obtained advantage over their elder competitors.
5.2. The young champions got the upper hand over their elder competitors.

6.1. Will you help me with my baggage?
6.2. Will you lend me a hand with my baggage?

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards.

This pair are not correct. To go hand in hand is just that - holding hands.

The two companies worked together to achieve success.
The two companies worked hand in hand to achieve success.

The third pair is not really a match. (Close, but not quite.) To disclipine someone is not the same thing as to take him in hand. To take someone in hand is to provide that person with guidance, counseling, and advice. It is akin to mentoring.
