    mails

    Hi,
"The US Postal Service delivers more mails in one day than Federal Express does in one year."

Could you tell me if "mails" or "letters" is correct?

    Thanks.

    Re: mails

Use "letters" -- mail is not countable.

    Re: mails

In most general cases Barb is right - if talking about postmen and letter-boxes, "mail" is not countable. However, in the case of e-mail (sometimes referred to as just "mail" - particularly among IT workers [who believe that the distinction should be mail/snailmail rather than e-mail/mail]) "mail" can be used as either C or U:
The two departments are linked by mail. [Uncountable]
    Didn't I send you a mail? [Countable]

Also, in the case you mentioned, it sounds as though the word "mail" is being used as a catch-all term for 'letter, or post-card, or commercial leaflet delivered by the postal service, or parcel' - but making it uncountable like that sounds like a piece of internal jargon.
