Get some TOEFL tests and become familiar with the structure of them. Expect similar ones on the real exam.
    Good Luck!!!

Can some native speakers and teachers tell me what they (Examiners) are actually expecting from the candidates?

Re: Any immediate and concrete approach?

I took it a long time ago( 1996). A the time it was composed of two big sessions. One of reading comprehension, and the following one was a hearing comprehension.
The second one was the difficult one for me. They used a tape recorder where two or three different persons had a conversation. After each situation they had a battery of question related with the dialogue that had taken place. In what sense was it difficult? Well, you have no chance to hear the conversation a second time and some of the questions were tricky. Overall it is not a hard test.
