    remaking of six sentences 9

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough verify the remaking of the following six sentences, using different collocations with the verb “give” instead of the italicized words and phrases?

    1.1. He was compelled to yield to their demands.
    1.2. He was compelled to give in to their demands.

    2.1. We’ve abandoned all hope to get rid of his ignoble presence.
    2.2. We’ve given up all hope to get rid of his ignoble presence.

    3.1. She burst into tears when she learned about her dismissal.
    3.2. She gave way to tears when she learned about her dismissal.

    4.1. Who will hand out our rations today?
    4.2. Who will give out our rations today?

    5.1. This strange fruit smells rather pleasantly.
    5.2. This strange fruit gives off rather pleasant smell.

    6.1. I’m afraid he will betray us.
    6.2. I’m afraid he will give us away.
