    remaking of six sentences 10

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough verify the remaking of the following six sentences, using different collocations with the verb “give” instead of the italicized words and phrases?

1.1. If you don’t return the money you have borrowed this very minute you’d better not speak to me again.
1.2. If you don’t give me back the money you have borrowed this very minute you’d better not speak to me again.

2.1. It was announced that the champion had been suddenly taken ill and wouldn’t participate in the next match.
2.2. It was given out that the champion had been suddenly taken ill and wouldn’t participate in the next match.

3.1. He hinted that he would probably go abroad in summer.
3.2. He gave us to understand that he would probably go abroad in summer.

4.1. You must hand in your test-paper at once.
4.2. You must give in your test-paper at once.

5.1. The detachment was in a tight corner, for their ammunition was nearly exhausted.
5.2. The detachment was in a tight corner, for their ammunition nearly gave out.

6.1. He was so ill and so weak that we lost all hope of his recovery.
6.2. He was so ill and so weak that we gave him up.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards.

    V.

Re: remaking of six sentences 10

They are all ok, but I don't like this one, 5.1. The detachment was in a tight corner, for their ammunition was nearly exhausted.
5.2. The detachment was in a tight corner, for their ammunition nearly gave out.

I think it needs to say "...had nearly given out."
