    remaking of six sentences 14

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough verify the remaking of the following six sentences, using different collocations with the verb “set” instead of the italicized words and phrases?

1.1. He proclaimed his views as soon as he joined us.
1.2. He set forth his views as soon as he joined us.

2.1. If I were you I wouldn’t urge him on to oppose his poor brother.
2.2. If I were you I wouldn’t set him on against his poor brother.

3.1. So far as I remember that building was erected when I was quite a boy.
3.2. So far as I remember that building was set up when I was quite a boy.

4.1. He made his pupils work at once.
4.2. He set his pupils to work at once.

5.1. The hot season began last month.
5.2. The hot season set in last month.

6.1. I strongly advise you to begin writing your composition tonight unless you wnt to lag behind your class.
6.2. I strongly advise you to set to writing your composition tonight unless you want to lag behind your class.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards

    V.

1.1. He proclaimed his views as soon as he joined us.
1.2. He set forth his views as soon as he joined us. This should be "set out" but it is not as emphatic as "proclaimed".

2.1. If I were you I wouldn’t urge him on to oppose his poor brother.
2.2. If I were you I wouldn’t set him on against his poor brother. This is fine without "on", "set him against".

3.1. So far as I remember that building was erected when I was quite a boy.
3.2. So far as I remember that building was set up when I was quite a boy. This doesn't work, I can't think of anything with "set" that would.

4.1. He made his pupils work at once.
4.2. He set his pupils to work at once. This is good.

5.1. The hot season began last month.
5.2. The hot season set in last month. This is good.

6.1. I strongly advise you to begin writing your composition tonight unless you wnt to lag behind your class.
6.2. I strongly advise you to set to, writing your composition tonight unless you want to lag behind your class. I think that this works with the comma.
