    occur and happen

    Dear teachers,

    Please read the sentence:

Whatever_____ to that singer you used to like so much?

    a. occurred b. happened

The key is ''a''. No problem. Could you please kindly explain why ''b'' isn't correct?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    b. is correct and idiomatic.
    a. is grammatically correct, but no-one would say it.
