    what word "them" refers to?

    Hello everyone

I'd like to ask what word "them" refers to in the following context:

Work will be about gaining contacts and building relationships this month. The strategizing work should have been done by now, and this is the time to implement them.

I think that "them" should refer to "strategizing work" but why is it plural?

Re: what word "them" refers to?

A bit of a mangled sentence. The goals are 'to gain contacts' and 'build relationships'. To this end, some strategizing has been done as to how to achieve these goals. One might then assume that "this is the time to implement them" refers to the goals. But one does not 'implement' goals, one achieves them. So 'implement' probably refers to the ideas and strategies generated, that, if implemented, will ensure goals are achieved. Some reference to what came out of all this strategizing that then needs to be 'implemented' has been omitted. (One can't implement the 'strategizing work' that was done - that's just the mental effort that went into coming up with specific ideas and strategies, so 'them', or its singular 'it', can't refer back to 'work'.)

A case of slovenly thinking expressed as slovenly speech.

Without more context, I'll suggest that the speaker may have switched focus to the individual points, the individual strategies developed, KLPNO. This couold happen when the listeners share common background knowledge.

The strategizing work should have been done by now, and this is the time to implement all the strategies we've developed
