    Smile Too Much Information (Joke)

    Too Much Information

My wife was in her gynecologist's busy waiting room when a cell phone rang. A woman answered it, and for the next few minutes, she explained to her caller in intimate detail her symptoms and what she suspected might be wrong.

Suddenly the conversation shifted, and the woman said, "Him? That's over." Then she added, "Can we talk about this later? It's rather personal, and I'm in a room full of people."

Hello, could someone else intrepret why the joke is laughable? It seems I understood every word but I don't realize which is the punch line. Thank you!

If there is a joke there it is that she had already been talking about personal information in a room full of people.

(I would say crowded room, not busy room. A room can't be busy.)

    Re: Too Much Information (Joke)

To me the joke is that she has been giving someone intimate details of her medical condition in front of a room full of strangers, but won't discuss her personal [emotional] life.

It is quite funny, but not a great joke.

Actually, we don't know what she won't discuss, because it's too personal. (I'm beginning to get the joke.)

Yes, but medical conditions are things we ought not to be ashamed of, whereas our personal life is something that should be private, when in a crowded room, at least. Perhaps it's funny, dunno...

    Re: Too Much Information (Joke)

A woman answered it, and for the next few minutes, she(the gynaecologist) explained to her caller(the woman) in intimate detail her symptoms and what she suspected might be wrong.
From the description above, it seems that it was the gynaecologist who was expaining in intimate detail to her patient over the phone, the woman who called and not the other way round. The woman who was in the room full of people was the patient doing the listening.

If it had been the other way round, I can understand the joke - that the woman patient spoke freely about her gynaecological conditions in the presence of many people but was reluctant to talk about her own personal life. So I still don't get the joke.
