    remaking of six sentences 18

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to verify the remaking of the following six sentences, using different collocations with the verb “grow” instead of the italicized words and phrases?

1.1. All her things became too small for her all of a sudden.
1.2. She grew out of all her things all of a sudden.

2.1. He has developed into a mature scientist.
2.2. He has grown into a mature scientist.

3.1. I’ll be happy if he drops that odd habit of his.
3.2. I’ll be happy if he grows out of that old habit of his.

4.1. By and by that strange child began to like to me.
4.2. By and by that strange child grew upon me.

    5.1. We cultivate rice here.
    5.2. We grow rice here.

6.1. My silly boy insists on having a moustache.
6.2. My silly boy insists on growing a moustache.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards

    V.

    Hi Soup,

Thank you for your prompt reply, as well as for your relevant suggested corrections.

There is a new rephrasing of 4.1.

4.1. As time went by, I began to like that strange child.

    Regards

4.1. I began to like that strange child.
4.2. That strange child grew (up)on me.

Note, the phrase by and by sounds awkward () to me in that context. (I apologize for not catching it before.)
4.1 As time went by, I began to like that strange child.
4.2. As time went by, that strange child grew (up)on me.

Do not use a comma when using a phrase like “as well as,” in which the clause is essential and restrictive (Source).
The new policy applies to faculty as well as staff.
