    Arrow last but not least

The Latin verb "natare," meaning "to swim," gave English the word "natatorial" and its variant "natatory." It also gave us "natant" ("swimming or floating in water"); "supernatant" ("floating on the surface"); "natation" ("the action or art of swimming"); and last but not least, "natatorium" ("an indoor swimming pool").

what does last but not least means? especially but not least here. many thanks.

When a list is developed and there is no particular value given to placement in the order of the list, the speaker/writer would say 'last but not least' to indicate that being the last item on the list does not mean it has less value than the other items. In the example you have provided, 'natatorium' could just as easily been the first item on the list. Because it is mentioned last does not diminish its importance to the list.

"Last but not least' is most often used when introducing individuals in random order. To make the last individual on the list feel as special as those who have been called ahead of him/her, the speaker would say "and last but not least is John Jones."

    Cheers,
    Amigo
