    Re: A mile a minute

A pretty standard pace these days on highways, but when the expression started, that was 'very fast'; and that is the general meaning of the expression today: very fast
I have a clematis plant which is advertised as growing 'a mile a minute', to indicate just how fast-growing it is.

1 mile per minutes is equivalent to 60 miles per hour or 96 km/hr. Yes, that's about the speed limit of certain highways.
