Student or Learner
Would you be kind enough to review my interpretations of two expressions witch attracted my attention when reading the following excerpts of Walter Macken’s “Tuesday’s children?”
“The doctor heard the clock striking midnight as he finished his last entry for Monday in the Diary. He felt very tired. He had had a long hard day. He looked at the virgin whiteness of Tuesday and he prayed that it would remain that way.”
“He thought of the time he was a student when he played football and stayed up half the night at dances, and even after drinking quite a bit.; the way he could awake in the morning without a gad head. He thought back to those days with wonder. He tried to see himself running a hundred yards with a ball. He couldn’t imagine it any more. He was too tired. He wondered what devil had inspired him to take up the art of healing.”
1. the virgin whiteness of Tuesday = There was no entry made in the diary on Tuesday yet, the page was clean.
2. to take up the art of healing = to become a doctor
Thank you for your efforts.
