    meant for the finer things?

    Dear Teachers,

I read this from The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney:

"She was one of those people - sadly numerous - who did not recognise that Sturrock was a man meant for the finer things in life, and that he was favouring her by gracing her shabby premises."

What does "meant for the finer things" mean?

He was accustomed to, or born to appreciate the more refined things in life.
By visiting her shabby home, he was doing her a favour, since shabbiness is something he would not normally associate with.
