Help me to find the mistake in this sentence

Please help me to find what's the mistake in this following sentence:
The colour of a star depends on the heat, and how much energy it produces
Really, I find this sentence nothing wrong

Heat refers to the energy. Can't you say:
The colour of a star depends on how much heat it produces?

The colour of a star is dependent on the heat, and how much energy it produces.

It's one of those nuances of language, nuances that some regard as nit-picking.

    Hope this helps.

Don't you mean "is dependent" is much more exact than "depends" and "depends" somehow is still correct?

Hi, there is nothing wrong with this sentence. If I had to make a criticism it is that "the heat" could mean the heat in the earth's atmosphere through which you are viewing the star. You could fix this with:
"The colour of a star depends on its heat, and how much energy it produces".

I would also prefer "temperature" to "heat" but other than that I can't add any more.

Re: Help me to find the mistake in this sentence

The way you present this, it is a test question, with 'pick the error' - and worse - 'if - if - there is one'. Just like you will find on English entrance exams...and some of the tests used in Asian countries that have been quoted (to our horror) in this forum.

So, if I am correct in this, then it is pointless, tedtmc, in saying how you would prefer the sentence to be written.

As a test-taker, one is confronted with two thoughts:
    "there is no error";
    or
"the only other thing I can see is that a fine tuning of the sentence is needed with 'depends on'" - the kind of subtle correction that some of these devilish 'not-actually-native speakers' test-makers slip in, that leave native speakers bewildered and outraged at times.

I gave you the answer I would have given if confronted by this as a test.
