Student or Learner
I've been taking an american training recently, and I find the most difficult words to pronunce are the words like failure, million, familiar, etc. I'm really confused about the "L" sound, It's not actually an "L" but more like a "y", or something between the two. I just want to how you native speakers pronunce these words, what's the position of your tongue? Thanks.
fail+ur
mill+yun
famil+ur
yes, but in the dictionary, the pronunciation is
'mi(l)-yən
'fāl-yər
fə-'mil-yər
there is no "U"
That's right. IPA has [j] or [y] before [u], as in United States = [yu:].
My ur = IPA [yu]
Ok. thanks
