    worldly?

"He's worldly known by people for his criticism to the soviet system."

I've searched the underlined word on the web and I think it doesn't mean exactly what I need.
How can I express the idea of being "internationally known" or "known throughout the world", please?

"Al Gore became ??? known for his work about 'global warming'.".

    Thanks.

Just famous would fit quite well. If you insist - ''Al Gore became famous worldwide...''

    I.

    Re: worldly?

    Thanks.
I think ''worldwide'' is the word I am looking for. Can I say "worldwide known for his work..."?
    Thanks again.

    Re: worldly?

Or: Al Gore became one of the world's most famous climate-change activists...

Yes. Either known worldwide (preferable) or worldwide known.
