    Thumbs down number of student

    what is the difference between:
    1) 'the qualities of water' and ' the quality of water'.
    2) 'a large number of students' and ' large numbers of students'.

In which context they are most appropriately used?

The qualities of water is likely to be used in a technical sense; perhaps when speaking scientifically about what constitutes water and how water behaves under certain conditions.

The quality of water would be used in a more general sense; perhaps, for instance, when speaking about the standard of tap-water in different countries.

The water quality is an alternative to The quality of water.

    2) 'a large number of students' and ' large numbers of students'.

I think these two are generally interchangable and have a very similar meaning.

    I'm not a teacher.
