    a little?

    is the function of "a little" the same in the following sentences?what part of speech is it in the second sentence? thanks in advance.

    a. there is a little milk.
    b. he pushed the door a little.

    both littles functions as adjectives ( but i'm not so sure)

    What is the word qualifying?

    In the first sentence it is qualifying a noun (milk), which makes it an adjective; in the second sentence it is qualifying a verb (pushed), which makes it an adverb.
