    I don't understand "take a lap"
    here is full sentence
    there is no harm taking another lap or two in the recruiting pool before you make a final decision about the firm where you worked last summer(internship)

    lap, Sports one complete round or circuit, especially of a racetrack; one complete length of a straight course, as of a swimming pool.

    In your example, Business 'the recruiting pool'.
