    so ~ that

    HI!

Maria must have been so angry that she was passed up for the promotion
    for the second time.

I wonder if so ~ that structure is possible in the sentence meaning.

I would like to correct it like this:

Maria must have been very angry because she was passed up for the promotion for the second time.

    Am I right?

    Hi,

I think the second is correct, but it should be " Maria must have been very angry because she was passed up for promotion for the second time." (omit "the")

I am not sure that the first's grammar is right ("was passed"!).

~she was passed up for the promotion is right.

I think after you can use a phrase "to pass up for promotion".

Oh, I am sorry, you can say "she was passed up...". I misunderstood ("so.. that", not "so that")

I was passed up for a promotion.
To be passed up - to be rejected.

In the US, you'd say "passed over" for a promotion.
