    Question Verb types

I have a question on linking, intransitive and transitive verbs.

Smoking appears to be the cause of the fire. Appears here is a linking verb, as it is linked to the cause, which is linked to smoking.

    Therefore,

Smoking caused the fire - caused is a transitive verb; is that correct?

    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Cos.
