    there is?are?

    There is over 6 billion of us? or There are over 6 billion of us? which is correct?
    I know thet IS goes with singular and ARE with plural but somehow I find IS here more apropriate. WHAT IS THE PROPER FORM HERE?

    Plural: There are over 6 billion of us.
    Contracted: There's over 6 billion of us.
