    Translating an idiom

Hello, I am translating from the Italian to English a sort of idiom.
Can you please tell me how would you call in English a person who refuses or plays foolishly to avoid paying a bill?
In Spanish is : do not behave like a Sweedish (no te hagas el Sueco)
In Italian: do not behave like an Indian (non fare el indiano)
Also is it correct to say: to take the French leave (to avoid a quarrel)

There is no definitive answer in the other thread, perhaps because there is no English term meaning this, let alone a term using another country's name.
