Why didn't you buy ___ books?

    1. Why didn't you buy any books?
    2. Why didn't you buy some books?
What's the difference in meaning between the above two sentences?

Usually any is used in negative and interrogative sentences, NOT some, except in Offers or requests.
    Would you like some bread?
    Could I have some water?

If your friend went to a book sale and came home with no books, you could ask either of these questions, and they would mean the same thing.
