    devastate/wipe out

    Hi,
Which verb is appropriate for the context?
    1. The indiscriminate use of pesticides has devastated many rare species.
    2. The indiscriminate use of pesticides has wiped out many rare species.
    Thank you.

    Re: devastate/wipe out

The second one is better. Note, collocations; e.g., devastated crops; wiped out species (of plants).
