    Behalf/Behalfs/Behalves

    Dear all,

Having a bit of a brain-off moment today, and subsequently, have no idea which of the following is correct:

I am writing on their behalf
I am writing on their behalfs
I am writing on their behalves

The correct answer, plus the reasoning, would be wholly appreciated!

    Regards,

    Andrew

I would go with I am writing on their behalf.

    However I'm not 100% sure.

    I am not a teacher.

An interesting question. It does seems that "behalf" is not generally used in the plural, but if you are saying on behalf of a number of individuals, I would be inclined to either "behalf" or "behalfs".

Neither plural form is common, though they both appear in the BNC and the ANC.
