    Well, not much. In the end, you have lost your job.

    Being fired means to have your employment terminated and seems more harsh than being "let go."

    Being "let go" may be from situation that you could not control, such as a company cutback or the business going under.

    Sometimes people do say "I was let go of my job" when they were really fired. It sounds softer and may save face.
