    sewn-in

    Hello,

I am reading The Kite Runner. In the sentence below, what does "sewn-in" mean?

The walls stand bare, save for a single tapestry with sewn-in beads forming the words ...

    Thanks in advance

The tapestry, or curtain, had beads sewed on it. The beads formed words.

For some reason, we use "sewn-in" for beadwork.
