Question Are these metaphors? plz help

I have to write a list of all the metaphors and similies in an essay. These are what I have found so far. Are they correct?

A vast asphalt parking lot sat ominously before the stripmall, which sprawled nearly half the length oa a city block.

I sit in silence trying to drown out the noise.

    ancient rust stained the sidewalk

a dismal reminder of the crying, throbbing, aching mass of humanity

Her lifeless gaze told a sad story.

The threat of leaving loomimg above me.

The railing leading to the stairs rattled with icy gusts of wind.

I belive this one is a similie?
The chair, like many other artifacts inside, seemed out of place.

A parking lot sitting may be a metaphor, not a very strong one.

I sit in silence trying to drown out the noise. Yes

    ancient rust stained the sidewalk
This sounds quite literal to me.

a dismal reminder of the crying, throbbing, aching mass of humanity
    Yes, more or less.

Her lifeless gaze told a sad story. Marginal. "Life" is not always the opposite of "death", so a "lifeless" gaze is possible.

The threat of leaving loomimg above me. Yes.

The railing leading to the stairs rattled with icy gusts of wind.
Maybe, only if the gusts aren't literally icy.

I belive this one is a similie?
The chair, like many other artifacts inside, seemed out of place.
No it's not a simile. Nor is there a metaphor here.
    There are my opinions.
