    were to, are to, is to

    hi,
    can someone explain "were to" "are to" and "is to"

    can i say:
    if i am to go there today, i will be meeting him.

    "am\are\is + to main verb" this format is used for future planning. when subject says , i intend to do this. eg. we are to go to the USA tomorrow.

    "was\were + to main verb" to show that something was plan but could not become possible. eg. i was to go to the circus last week but but i could not get the ticket.
    it shows unfulfilled action of the past
