    How's it going for you?

    Is it the same as: How's going/how you doing? Does the word "for" in the first question changes the meaning?

    It is akin to asking someone "how's life treating you"?

    Even if the literal meaning changes a bit, they are just different ways of greeting someone.

    ... and your 'How's going' doesn't exist - although the subject ("it") may be very indistinct: 'How's it going?'

    Very rarely, in the context of horse-racing, the question could be 'How's the going?' This is not a question about anyone's health/state of mind; it's a question about conditions underfoot.
