    they're all red?

    Dear Teachers,

I read this from The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penny:

"I'm not sure that there was ever much of anything round here. Do you know what the natives call this neck of the woods? Starvation Country. Even the bloody foxes can't find anything to eat - and they're all red, of course."

What does it mean by "they're all red"? Is it trying to imply something?

You get red foxes and silver foxes.
I don't know the significance. Maybe they're looking for silver fox pelts?
