    Short Sentences (Very Urgent. Please Help! Thank You.)

    Hi,

    Pleaseproofread the following short sentences. It will be very kind and thoughtful of you.

    1. The wind howls.
    2. A yellow bird flew by.
    3. The little boy whispers.
    4. Her wedding ring shines.
    5. The little girl danced.
    6. The ferocious lion roared.
    7. The candle melted.
    8. The big city slept.
    9. Ten horses ran around the track.
    10. When did school close?
    11. Our waiter laughed at my joke.
    12. His shoe smelled.
    13. A new museum opened.
    14. Our chair broke.
    15. He spilled my water.
    16. Her teacher smiled.
    17. The rabbit jumped in the bush.
    18. Some children jumped rope.
    19. The little town was a tourist spot.
    20. An old man won the race.
    21. The girl sang a song.
    22. A yellow duck quacked.
    23. We were in the dark theater.
    24. All the boys played football.
    25. The math teachers celebrated.
    26. Our car ran out of gas.
    27. The fish jumped over the boat!
    28. The mail man delivered mail.
    29. Grandfather's radio broke.
    30. The student passed the test.
    31. The boys baked cookies.
    32. The kids picked flowers.
    33. Complete the sentence with the correct noun.
    34. The groomer bathed six dogs on Friday.
    35. My piano teacher taught me two new songs this week!
    36. The Olympic swimmer won six gold medals!

    18, 23, 25, 26 and 31 suggest you're interested in Am E. I see no flagrant errors in your sentences, though a couple sound odd; they might not to a speaker of Am E. Perhaps another teacher can help.

    As per your request by PM:

    When did school close?
    (In the UK, unless the school closed down, we would say 'finish'.

    The rabbit jumped in the bush.
    (This is not the same as jumped into the bush).

    The groomer bathed six dogs on Friday.
    Humans 'bathe'. They would be very indulged, pampered dogs if they were 'bathed. Dogs are 'washed'.

    I'm curious now about what makes #18 "American." Do you not skip rope or jump rope in the UK? What do you call it?

    We just skip. If the context doesn't make it clear that a rope is involved, we would use some paraphrase like 'exercise with a skipping rope' or 'take a rope and do some skipping' - anything to avoid giving "skip" an object.
