1. ## If..Weather..Unless..?

Hi my teachers..........................

What are the difrences between If..Weather..Unless..?

With examples..........................

Thank you.................................

2. If

If it rains, I'll take an umbrella.

Whether (note spelling) = if + clear choice
Whether it rains or not, I'll take an umbrella.

Unless = if not

It's raining- you'll get wet unless you take an umbrella.

3. ## Re: If..Weather..Unless..?

Thank you very much.............................

But give another example like this....................

4. ## Re: If..Weather..Unless..?

If I ask TDOL I will get it right.
Whether I ask TDOL or not, it will rain.
Unless I ask TDOL I will probably get it wrong.

5. ## Re: If..Weather..Unless..?

Thank you very much todl&RonBee,but I have more questions: :)

Can we use whether instead of if?

What does it mean Whether=if+free choice?

I think so, but there may be a difference in usage.

"Tell me whether you want to go or not."
"Tell me if you want to go or not."

The first one might be seen as more emphatic. (Context and inflection are going to make a difference in any case.)
