    problem with a sentence

I have a sentence like that which is incorrect:

*The writer was booed of poetry by his students.

The task is as follows: account for the ungramaticallity of the following sentence. Refer to the specific descriptive apparatus (rules, principles, constraints)

I know that the sentence should be : The writer of poetry was booed by his students. But how to explain it, by what rule should it look like this. Help! is it according to the x-bar theory, that this [of poetry] is the NP [the writer] complement and it should follows the NP directly???

    Re: problem with a sentence

The writer of poetry is the subject. The prepositional phrase of poetry within the full noun/nominal phrase the writer of poetry.

I am not sure if that comes even close to answering your question, but that is how I view the problem with the erroneous sentence.

    I am not a teacher.
