    subjunctive

    I suggested that he study hard for the test.
    Are these sentences right too?
    1) I suggested that he studied hard for the test.
    2) I suggested that he should study hard for the test.
    3) I suggested he study hard for the test.

    Yes, they're all grammatical, but they mean different things.
    2 and 3 mean basically the same as the reference sentence.
    In 1. the studying is in the past tense. It could mean that he's done the test already. He's worried about failing, and you were trying to cheer him up by suggesting that since he had studied hard for the test, he would probably pass. But "had studied" would be better in that case.
