    Cool makes or make

What is the correct way to say/pronounce:
    36 + 12 =48

    Is it:

    a) Thirty-six and twelve makes forty-eight.

    OR

    b) Thirty-six and twelve make forty-eight.

Should we use the singular or plural form of the verb "to make"?
Many thanks in advance for your answer.

    Re: makes or make

Actually, in the U.S., we'd say "thirty-six plus twelve equals forty-eight."

But we'd use the singular noun - it is essentially used to say "this forumual equals."

    Re: makes or make

    Thanks for your reply.........

I know that the word "make or makes" isn't a really good choice. The use of "equal / equals" ist by far the better choice. It was like that in an exercise, that's why I posted it with this word.

You relaised that the important part of my question was if we have to use singular or plural of the verb.
