    tarte and pie

    I would like to know what is the different between tarte and pie

    Please look at both pictures. One says apple tarte and the other says apple pie. But Both look the same. What is the different between tarte and pie

    A tart doesn't have a topping.
    A pie usually does.
    Being topless, they both look like tarts to me.

    A kind of "covered" tarte/food....

    You can get apple pie, but also meat pie, kidney pie...delicious.

    We have something similar in Spain, called "empanada"

    - I agree that the two pictures in the OP look like tarts to me. In the first case, the menu might even refer to it as a 'tarte', because it is a tarte aux/de(?) pommes.
