    The later works are distinguished by spidery hieroglyph-like symbols which he famously described with, "A line is a dot going for a walk".


    Would you interpret the quote by Paul Klee?

    And a plane is a line going for a walk.
    And a solid is a plane going for a walk.
    After that they just make more solids.
    [ Hint: it's a metaphor. Dots don't actually walk, but if they did they'd make a line.]

    Think of those 'X by night' postcards, where the image is dark and all you can see are the lines traced by the lights of the cars.
