I saw a comment by a forum member who gave the thumbs down about applying "lotta", "wanna" to English writing .
I am wondering whether it is okay to write 'ex'?
For example, He is her ex.
Thank you for your help.
I remember in grammar class long ago (4th-5th grade) "ex-husband/ex-wife" was one of the vocabulary words. I think it was mostly to show us where to put the apostrophe when we make it possessive. I agree with bhaisahab, however. "Former" is more appropriate.
Thank you for your input.
On the other hand, colloquially you will hear it quite often here.
Not in formal writing, I agree, but it's VERY common in the US to use "ex" to refer to the ex-husband, ex-boyfriend, whatever.
Will Jeanne come to the party knowing that two of her exes will be there?
I ran into my ex at dinner last night.
Very, VERY common.
