    "occasions" in this sentence

The two tough men were a hard team to beat, and with Herb Stately as their manager, they were able to capture the SCCW tag team titles on a record breaking three occasions.

I don't have a clue about the meaning of "breaking three occasions" Does that mean the tag team scored the title three times?

It's record breaking and three occasions, but yes, it does mean that they won three times, and that was a record.
