Post furtive tribe who hardly dare own up in public

From The case for co-sleeping | Life and style | The Guardian

In the text below, what do the words in bold mean?

For we are a family of co-sleepers - members of a rather furtive tribe who hardly dare own up in public to such an unfashionable practice, at odds with the modern, routine-based childcare experts who think that children are best settled in their own rooms as early as possible to make them independent.

Co-sleepers, a family, parents + child or children, who sleep in the same bed. Furtive tribe, they keep their ideas on this to themselves and wouldn't dare own up, tell anyone about their preferred life style because it is not considered acceptable these days.
