I found the following online: "How's by you" is an American idiom, by way of New York Yiddish. As happens so often, it reached common usage via the comic and musical theater, and then the movies-- early movies anyway, such as the Marx Brothers. It's a little regional now, though, and dated. I'd call it a "Swing-Era" term.
