    from or since?

    Hi there!
I'd like to ask about the use of since.

John lived in New York since 1976 to 1980.
John lived in New York from 1976 to 1980.

I think from is okay, but what about since in this case?

    Thank you!

    OP

from is right, and since is wrong.
Can you work out why since is wrong?

    Thank you, Raymott

Honestly, I don't know why "since" is wrong in this case. Is this because "from" and "to" are used together?

"Since" generally means from <a certain time> up to now.
John has lived in New York since 1976. (He's still living in New York).
"since ... to ... " is wrong. If you are ever tempted to write that, change it to "from ... to ... "
