    Sizes

When talking about sizes, what forms above are correct? Is there any other form I can use to talk about sizes (clothes, shoes...)?

    Question:
What size shoe do you wear?

    Possible answers:
    I wear 5.
    I wear a size 5.
    My size shoe is 5.
    My shoe size is 5.

Do anybody know why we use "a" when we say "I wear a size ..."?

    Thank you very much!

    2 & 4 are correct.

Perhaps we use the indefinate article because we are speaking generally - I wear a size 5 shoe (any shoe in this size), not a particular size 5 shoe.

For instance, imagine you're in a shop and you have tried on a pair of size 5s and 6s, when the shop assistant asks "which pair do you want?", you would say "I'd like the size 5s" - you would be referring to a particular pair of size 5 shoes, so therefore the definate article would be appropriate.

    I am not a teacher.
