    Communicative Language Teaching

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is an approach to the teaching of second and foreign languages that emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language. It is also referred to as “communicative approach to the teaching of foreign languages” or simply the “Communicative Approach”.

    * Could you please tell me more about this. Thanks!

    * And... What's the difference between second and foreign languages stated here? Is there any or is it's just me who thinks so?

    Re: Communicative Language Teaching

If it's a foreign language, you learn it for use at work, travel, entertainment, but if it's a second language you're learning it for living in an English-speaking country.

Originally the Communicative Approach was a response to the Audio-Lingual Method, which consisted of dry drills that emphasised grammatical structures. It brought authentic texts in and emphasised meaning and communication rather than simply looking at grammar patterns. Nowadays, the term is used so widely that it has become a bit meaningless IMO.
