    mace wielders/hailed

Guru Drona brought Arjuna first and asked him to demonstrate his power. He showed his archery skills. First, simple shooting power and then, fierce weapon power. Arjuna shot an arrow into the ground which created leaping flames. The people got scared. But he shot another arrow skywards and it brought down heavy showers. It drew an thundering applause from the public. The people hailed Arjuna. All had to agree that he was the deadliest archer in business.
The next demonstration was by mace wielders.

Please explain the emboldened parts/words to me.

To greet or acclaim enthusiastically: The crowds hailed the boxing champion.

A mace is a particularly brutal weapon.

Google "mace weapon" for numerous examples.
