    Literature

What term is used to describe a story/novel that begins the plot with an event occuring instead of an introduction-the story starts off with a major event. What is that called?

    Re: Literature

It's simply starting the reader in the midst of the action.

Most poeple would find it more exciting to start a story with the action then to read "When Mary was a little girl, she hoped one day to tame lions. So Mary studied hard in school so she could go to a good university. Then in college, Mary studied biology and psychology. Finally, she was accepted in a program that taught people who to tame lions. One day, she was working with a lion when.."

How much more interesting is it to start with "The lion growled menacingly, but the young woman was unconcerned, focused as she was on..."
